The Story
The cliff coast off Grauwhaven is a ships' graveyard. Below the water the hulls lie stacked like driftwood, and in the village above, every family wears mourning. When the mist comes, a song rises from the cliffs, and whoever hears it steers their ship straight for it. You are hired by a shipowner whose last fleet comes in tomorrow night, riding the tide with the mist on its way.
High on the cliffs nests a flock of harpies, led by Grey Morrigane, the Songstress of the Cliffs, an old matriarch whose voice amplifies the rest. What the waves smash on the rocks, they pluck from the wrecks: provisions, plunder, and the crews clinging to driftwood. Their nest overflows with bones and loot, and the song is no mere singing, it is hunger given voice.
You shield yourselves against the song with wax and willpower, scramble up the slick cliffs toward the nest, and search for a way to repair the lighthouse foghorn so ships can be warned. Along the way you fight diving harpies and the lure of the song that drags your own legs toward the edge.
The turn: the rescuing fleet already looms on the horizon while you are still climbing, and Grey Morrigane launches into her most powerful song. In the climax on the cliff edge, among the bones and the shrieking wind, you must silence the songstress and set the foghorn wailing, exactly in time, or watch the last fleet of Grauwhaven break on the rocks.
