The Story

The mine tunnel opens into an immense cavern where rivers of glowing magma run past polished stone. The heat slams against your face and the air trembles with smoke and sulfur. Giant anvils stand cold and still—for the first time in twelve generations. A dwarf with a soot-black face hurries toward you, a lantern shaking in his hand. "One of us has vanished," he says hoarsely. "And the mountain growls differently than before. Deeper."

The smith who hires you promises a weapon that songs will be sung about, if you bring the missing dwarf back. But the disappearance is only the tip: the Dwarven Mine of Pyrrhaxis has dug too deep and broken an old seal that held something beneath the volcano imprisoned. The growling mountain is no mountain—it's what wakes inside it.

You descend through collapsing tunnels, cross over rivers of magma, and follow the missing dwarf's trail to the deepest shaft. You find his pickaxe, his logbook, and signs that he didn't simply lose his way but was taken. Along the way rock melts of its own accord and the heat whispers in a tongue older than the dwarves themselves.

The twist: the deepest vein the dwarves struck was the prison of Pyrrhaxis, the Unleashed Flame—a column of living magma with eyes like smelting furnaces, drawing all the mountain's fire toward its roaring core. That is why the anvils stand cold. In the climax, at the edge of the glowing abyss, you face Pyrrhaxis itself, and you must save the missing dwarf and restore the seal before the volcano erupts and drags the whole mine down with it.
