The Story

After days in the mist you stumble into the village of Mistvoorde, too good to be true: warm hearths, steaming food, villagers who embrace you as if you were long-lost family. After the hard road it feels like a blessing.

But every road out bends back into the village. The previous travelers, whose belongings still sit in the guest room, have 'just left.' And behind every broad smile hides an ancient hunger: long ago Mistvoorde struck a pact with something in the forest that must be kept fed, and guests are the only coin.

You have to see through the kindness before you end up on the menu: find the cellars full of bones, catch the village elder in a lie, discover the altar in the forest, and puzzle out how to break a road out that keeps folding back. All while you are kept smiling at the table.

The twist: the pact binds the villagers as tightly as their guests; De Honger in het Bos, a devouring forest spirit of roots and hungry mouths, forces this upon them, and some villagers want nothing more than to be free. In the climax, during the great feast where you are the guests of honor, you must break the pact and defeat or drive off De Honger in het Bos before the knives are turned on you.
